Sangam, 2019, MDF and clutch wire on Mild Steel structure - 6' height x 2' width

The confluence of ideologies and actions can be based on shared histories and culture. The use of the crescent moon on the Pakistani flag and of the Ashoka Chakra on the Indian flag have their own individual (national/collective) reasons. Here in the installation there is a confluence of these two contrasting symbols (for more reasons apart from the obvious visual one, read ideological). Do they actually come together or is their existence here simply a matter of perspective? As one moves from the left to the right and back, one can make out the Ashoka Chakra and the crescent moon alternately. The open to interpretation sculpture that works basically from the perspective of the viewer. Like any art work, it is the point of view of the viewer that decides what they see (notice). Nothing changes in the sculpture except for the perspective held by the viewer who has their own bias/blind spots to blame for what they see or ignore.

Sangam means coming together. With all the things mentioned above about perspectives and the title which means confluence leaves nothing more to be said. All it needs is for the perspective and the standpoint of the viewer to change.
